The advent of computing in everyone’s lives has represented a major
revolution not only in communication but also in the way we think and
act. The use of screens, the Internet, and various digital tools has
significantly transformed the activities of all those who have access
to them, and their use continues to increase.
Children of
all ages, particularly gifted at adopting these new technologies, have
embraced them.
Overall, this evolution, which today seems
irreversible, has positive effects, both by improving the acquisition
of knowledge and skills,
and by contributing to the development of thinking and the social
integration of children and adolescents.
Nevertheless, it
quickly became apparent that the often excessive use of all the now
readily available forms of digital tools (video games, the Internet,
mobile phones, tablets, social networks, etc.)—which we have grouped
under the common denominator of screen use—can sometimes have serious
negative effects on all individuals, and especially on children.
